Pius “Pete” Bernhard

founded Bernhard Woodwork in 1965. Apprenticed as a woodworker in Germany, Pete came to America in 1951. His ability to mentor others resulted in a company of artisans... and became the secret of his success. Herta and Pete grew the company to 2 locations and over 190 employees serving residential, commercial and retail clients nationwide. For a traditional woodworker he was not afraid of technology and built one of the most advanced plants of its kind in the country. Although Pete is no longer with us, his values of quality and service live on in a new generation well-equipped to take his company into the future. He leaves a legacy of many persons and companies founded in the industry today because of his mentoring.

Herta Bernhard

joined her husband Pete as an integral parter in the business in 1966. She brought a numbers focus and oversight to the business as a balance to Pete’s ambition, allowing it to grow and prosper. She serves as CFO and Treasurer to this day. Since Pete’s death, Herta has grown the business 3 fold in sales. Herta has Business Technical Degree-Regensburg, Germany; Bachelors in Education- University of Munich; Master’s in Education- University of Regensburg. She is very active. As a Cross Country Skier in the Birkebeiner Ski Race she’s a top 10 finisher in her age group.

Mark Bernhard

had been active in the business since the 1980’s and full time since 1991. With hands on woodworking experience gained working on the plan floor, Mark is a graduate of Boston College- Finance & Org Studies and Northwestern University-MBA. Mark took over as President in 1997 and runs the company currently with Herta Bernhard. Bernhard Woodwork has grown its footprint to 100,000 square feet of manufacturing with the most modern machinery available on the market. Mark is a skier, golfer, and curler.
